Did Netflix’s Hemlock Grove leave me wanting more?

Netflix are firmly stamping their mark on the TV streaming industry. Now in the business of making their own series we have been given a super natural thriller, set in rural ish America the trailer promised a fast paced, special effect driven thrill ride which gets rather gruesome and horrific at times.

Take a look here.

Here we are a month after the entire first series was released, many have watched it all, loved it & eagerly awaiting another series. Others were left disappointed and haven’t got any further than two episodes. I’ve heard cries of dull acting & terrible dialogue through to the “I quite liked it” and when you liked it, you defended it with all you have.

Eli Roth directs so we knew it wasn’t going to be an easy watch. From the trailer I have to admit I was apprehensive about watching the series, I’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to blood & flesh. Things that go bump in the night are not normally my cup of tea. With this in mind I chose to watch in my lunch break, in the day light, surrounded by lots of people.

I’m half way through first episode so loud of setting the scene & even had a flash back. So far, I’m intrigued, nothing too shock factor or scary yet. The initial sequence & murder (I didn’t spoil anything there, the synopsis on Netflix did reveal there’s a murder) did leave me expecting more but I think they may just be letting me in gently.

I’ve now watched the first episode and I’m not that inclined to watch any more. Perhaps I should, do let me know. I was left underwhelmed and disappointed. I felt if could have been so much more. As pointed out previously the acting was a tad wooden, which wasn’t held by the cagey dialogues.

Don’t get me wrong, the effects were good. I believed there was something different about this community. The atmosphere created was great, moody and dark, something you need in a super-natural show. I watched using a kindle and it still sent shivers through me, I can imagine in the big screen this would be amplified immensely. Music and sound track were very fitting and added to the intensity. It’s a shame it couldn’t back this up with a steady story and powerful acting.

I really wanted to like it, I did. Always support the under-dog but I really couldn’t. I’m sorry to all those fans who adored it. I may pick it up again and his it another go but until that day I will go back to spending my lunch hour drinking coffee.

What did you think? Let me know if you think I’m missing something.

Hi

You may have noticed some musings about Moreflicks UK coming soon. I’m pleased to announce it is now live and running.

Head over to Moreflicks UK, play around and find something you want to watch. As it’s still new please let us know if there’s anything you think would improve it or something that bugs you. There is a feedback link on the site but you can also contact us on twitter and Facebook.

From the main home screen you can search Movies or TV Shows, playing on Netflix, iTunes, BBC iPlayer and Crackle. Like the main moreflicks site you can browse by Genre, Top Movies, Oscar Winners, Most Popular, New Arrivals and and that are expiring soon.

So, whatver you fancy watching, whether it’s something to keep the kids quiet as it’s raining outside (as I write this it’s hail-stoning!) or perhaps you want to snuggle up with a loved one and catch up with a missed TV show, find it here.

Thanks :-)

@moreflicks_UK

This site will be specifically for UK users, searching UK Streaming sites and giving you content which can be streamed or downloaded. We will have BBC’s iPlayer available so you’ll be able to get to the latest Dr. Who.

We want to know what you think about our new idea. Let us know. We will let you know as soon as the website becomes live and you are able to access and use the site yourselves.

Thanks :-)

We’ve Added More Features!

coming-soon-large-500We thought we’d spring a little surprise on you and drop a relatively small update to Moreflicks.

As you’ve probably noticed the biggest change is that we’ve added BBC iPlayer to the list of providers.

Those of you with a keen eye will notice we’ve tweaked the layout ever so slightly, bringing in a more uniform look to the movie thumbnails.

If you use moreflicks on your iPad, iPhone or mobile device – you’ll see that the social media and feedback tabs stay out the way to improve your mobile experience.

We’ve also put more hamsters in the wheel* to make the site work that bit faster, and squished a lot of the nasty bugs that were lingering around.

Now our noses are back to the grindstone, whilst we develop and implement some pretty big features for our next drop, some of which you guys came up with!

If you have an idea, feature or find a pesky bug that has evaded our bug spray – then please let us know. Just click the “Feedback” tab to the left on the main site, and leave us your feedback. You have the power to shape what Moreflicks is to become!

*No hamsters are harmed in the wheel, they watch Netflix all day and are fed well :)
