Netflix is joining forces with DreamWorks Animation to create an original series for kids based on the upcoming movie “Turbo.”
The series will be called “Turbo F.A.S.T” and will pick up where the movie ends.
“Turbo”, set to hit theatres on July 19, is about a snail who gets super-fast powers after a freak accident, and features the voices of Ryan Reynolds and Paul Giamatti.
“Families love Netflix, so creating an original series for kids was a natural for us,” said Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos in a statement announcing the deal. “DreamWorks Animation has a long track record of creating incredibly successful characters and stories that delight people of all ages.”
Netflix is trying to gain new subscribers by producing more original content such as the hugely popular “House of Cards” but Turbo: F.A.S.T” will be the first Netflix original series for children. The 26 episode series will be available to stream in December.
